1.1.4 Examining Your Values

You may be wondering why Dux is always on about values. We discuss them at Go-Getters, Orientation, and during the holiday programme.

Why Your Values Matter

A value is a principle or standard that you feel is important - a quality you admire, aim to model yourself on, and strive for on a regular basis. Values are the magnets of your moral compass. By referring to them in times of both happiness and hardship, values allow you to make difficult decisions with conviction.

"value /ˈvælju/ noun: a strongly held belief about what is valuable, important, or acceptable".

Mahatma Ghandi said, "Your beliefs become your thoughts. Your thoughts become your words. Your words become your actions. Your actions become your habits. Your habits become your values. Your values become your destiny."

While Scott Jeffrey noted that "Values aren’t selected; they’re discovered. We don’t choose our values. Our values reveal themselves to us", you may feel the need for some inspiration to get started. Here is a list of some values. Without overthinking, trust your gut as you run through the list and circle those that jump out and resonate with you:

When you infuse your life with a value-led vision, who you are should pour out of every cell of your being so that you attract people and situations that support you to reaching your goals.
