Congratulations, Nonhlanhla, on obtaining your B.Nursing from the University of Johannesburg!
Bio
"Good day. I am Nonhlanhla Mabena.
A 22 year old from the dusty township of Mapleton, in the East Rand. When I matriculated in 2015, I knew I wanted to be in health because I always felt like my purpose was to help other people. I was aware that the "going to university dream" was not always realized by most of my peers because of the socioeconomic pressures from our homes. Naturally, I started applying for funding after applying for a position at University.
The Star school program, which I was apart of from grade 10 until Matric, played a role in introducing me to the Peermont bursary. Fortunately, I was selected to be apart of the Class of 2016 for The Peermont Education Trust and they helped fund my tertiary stay at University of Johannesburg while I was pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing.
During our tertiary stay, we received holistic support from our bursary, which made it easier to navigate through school. Today, I am working in one of the biggest Academic hospital in the Southern Hemisphere as a Professional Nurse. I plan on furthering my studies within the health department mainly focusing on Health education promotion: prevention will always be better than cure."
