Bio
"My name is Gugulethu Khumalo, born and bred in the dusty streets of Sakhile. I am a daughter, a sister and a friend. I strongly believe that we are all capable of achieving what we set our minds to achieve regardless of what has happened in the past. I am studying towards being a Charted Accountant at the University of Johannesburg.
What has been the most surprising learning in your journey to getting your degree?
For as long as I can remember I have been excelling academically and I was never really used to failure. In the journey of my degree I gave it my all, passion, dedication and hard work. However, I failed one module in my 3rd year that I had never dreamt I will ever fail. Instead of that being a setback, I was determined to prove to myself that I can always rise beyond any obstacles. Instead of looking at it as a “fail”, I looked at it as another opportunity to be even better. the most surprising learning was the inner strength and the ability to overlook all the obstacles to be the best version of myself.
What advice would you give young people who want to study your degree?
Studying towards being a charted accountant is not an easy journey, but it is not impossible. You will come across different challenges, but you will always have the support system from peers, lectures and mentors. Always use the support available to you, two minds are always greater than one.
What would you like to achieve in your career?
I would really like to be an investment banker and an entrepreneur in the future. The account degree will help me achieve that goal by being exposed to different businesses to get the necessary experience and exposure to be a better accountant to help both the clients, enrich my knowledge and give back to the community."
