DuxPD Ambassador - Nomfundo Madonsela
#DuxPD is super proud of our students. Amongst them, sunny Nomfundo Madonsela - 2nd Bachelor of Arts (Law Major) student at Wits. Follow Nomfundo as she shares with us an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at moments in her #DuxStudentLife…
My name is Nomfundo Ignatia Madonsela. I am from Mpumalanga. I was born and bred in Standerton, but I definitely will not spend my whole life there. I am the only child from my mother’s side and the fifth born from my father’s. I am a second-year student at Wits University, studying Bachelor of Arts (Law Major).
Being raised by a single parent meant that my childhood was never easy, and I know what struggle is. But my mother never disappointed me and for that I am forever grateful. To be honest, I am partly glad that I suffered somehow, not being able to get everything I wanted made realise that I must work extra hard to get where I want to be in life. I do not believe in having a role model because what shapes my life is my past experiences and mistakes. I prefer having a mentor because I can get to know this person on a personal level and they will know what advice to give me in any circumstances or guide me through my path.
“Be Yourself, Do You! Everyday!” This is what keeps me going, my everyday motivation. I cannot afford to live someone else’s life because that will eat me alive. As a person, you cannot make everyone happy, so it is very important to be true to yourself and do what makes you happy. However, what makes you feel good may not always be the right thing. BE CAUTIOUS.
I am a dreamer, a visionary, and an achiever. Failure is also part of an achievement because you would have learnt about other things from failing - meaning that you have gained some knowledge and knowledge is key. I have failed in my life and I thought it was over for me until I realised that it is actually what I needed.
I have always told myself that I will go to university, I will graduate, and I still believe that I will make it. I at least owe myself that. Education is one of the most essential tools in the world regardless of what other people say. Being a student is hard, but I believe that is how a person grows, through challenges but I am so grateful for having an academic and personal support system. Dux has done so much for me since I became an independent student. I have learnt how crucial time management is, sticking to what you have planned and ensuring that you carry it out. This simply means that having a master schedule and consistency is beneficial.
Learning is enjoyable because you get to perceive things differently and it boosts one’s level of thinking and reasoning. Me saying this means that I love learning because it is how I grow spiritually, emotionally, and psychologically.
I am grateful for the opportunities I have been given such as being part of the #DuxPD family and having a scholarship. It is not an everyday thing to happen or for a person to be provided with. I plan to make a difference in my life. I want to be proud of myself, in every single day of my life and my story to change someone else’s life. This can only be achieved if I work and I mean HARD. This means that there are sacrifices to be made for me to be where and the person I want to be in life.
If other people made it, so will I!
World Suicide Prevention Day was observed last week (10 September 2018), and October 2018 is Mental Health Education and Depression Awareness month. Nomfundo tackles these issues head-on:
An organised and orderly environment is reflective of an orderly and organised mind, right!?
"Where words fail, music speaks." Hans Christian Andersen
Friends make life sweeter:
Studying takes discipline and keeping your eyes on the prize!
And finally, when the task is complete, bedtime:
Up and at 'em!
Breakfast is the most important meal of the day:
Cinnamon improves the body's ability to regulate blood sugar and this aromatic spice also boosts brain activity. Research shows that just smelling cinnamon enhances cognitive processing and cinnamon has been shown to improve scores on tasks related to attention, memory, and visual-motor speed.
And with that, Nomfundo calls it a night!
